Check out the letter below from 26 Seattle Public School educators and staff serving District 6 kids and families and see for yourself why they’re supporting my candidacy:
We are elementary, middle, and high school teachers in Seattle Public Schools and proud members of the Seattle Education Association writing in support of an outstanding candidate for Seattle City Council District 6, Dr. Jay Fathi.
We have each come to know Jay through his tireless devotion to our students, and the educators and school staff who make our schools great. Dr. Jay was raised in Seattle and is himself the product of Seattle Public Schools. He later attended the University of Washington for undergrad and the UW School of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Jay chose to work for 12 years in the 45th Street Community Health Clinic serving un- and underinsured children, families, and seniors across our city. He later served as Director of Community Health at Swedish before heading up implementation of the Affordable Care Act in Washington State — helping over 250,000 Washingtonians get coverage. And, he himself is an educator at the UW School of Medicine.
Although that is an impressive resume on its own, during that same time Dr. Jay has been a health care provider in our own schools serving as Attending Physician at Roosevelt High School Teen Health Center for many years and later Medical Director at the Ballard High School Teen Health Center.
In addition to his work on behalf of the health and well-being of our kids, Dr. Jay has been a tireless volunteer in our classrooms, lunchrooms, recesses, and field trips. This school year he was the volunteer Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Hamilton International Middle School.
Dr. Jay has spent his career working with people to solve problems with compassion and care. He has built programs and partnerships to help improve the lives and health of our communities. And he has worked as an educator and volunteer to put his values into action.
We know that there are a number of candidates running to represent our students, teachers, district, and city on the City Council, but Dr. Jay Fathi is OUR candidate and we urge Seattle Education Association to put its full support behind his campaign.
